About Us

Birgunj Nursing Campus (BNC) is located in the Parsa District of Madhesh Province, in the Birgunj metropolitan city. It was founded in 2032 BS (1975 AD) with Community Auxiliary Health Worker (CAHW) program named as Bara Parsa program. In ashar 2033 B.S., the curriculum was adopted by TU IOM as Birgunj Campus, with AHW (non-credit Course) training program. This program began in a rented room at Resamkotti-9 in Birgunj.

In 2038 B.S.(1981AD) AHW training program was updated to Proficiency Certificate Level. USAID aided in the construction of the campus’s own building and the transfer from Reshamkoti-9 to Birta-4. PCL Nursing program began in 2043 B.S. (1986 AD) with a first admission of 30 students and has since grown to a yearly intake of 45 students. Bachelor of Nursing (BN) two-year program (Hospital Nursing) with 20 students began in 2068 B.S. (2011AD) and was followed by Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNS) The three-year program which began in 2072 B.S. (2015AD) with 20 students and was later expanded to include 25 seats for the BNS program. Since the academic year 2075/76 (2018 AD), 15% of male students have registered in the 32nd and 33rd batches of PCL Nursing, and the 9th batch of BNS Nursing Program is currently in operation. The PCL program has been discontinued since 2077-78 B.S. (2020 A.D.), however the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) program continues with 30 students. In the academic year of 2078/79 increased 40 numbers of Students with specialty of community Health Nursing (10) and child health nursing (5) and Adult Health Nursing (25) in BNS program.  Birgunj Nursing Campus has come a long way in its 47 years of existence. It has increased its academic program from CAHW to BNS &  BSc Nursing and plans to add a Bachelor of Midwifery and additional higher education in Nursing.

Objectives of the institution

On completion of the Nursing program, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.
  3. Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  5. Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
  6. Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programs.
  7. Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
  8. Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  9. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical / community health settings.
  10. Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.
  11. Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical / community health settings.
  12. Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
